|
Beginner or false beginner |
You have no knowledge of the
language, or you have only some words or sentences learnt certain time
ago already. You write, read or understand that very briefly, and what
is made is with numerous errors. You make a literal translation of
your own language. |
| Elementary |
You understand 50 % of the usual
conversations expressed clearly and slowly. Your vocabulary remains
however limited enough. You know certain grammatical, spelling,
syntactical points and of pronunciation. You often appeal to a
dictionary. You still think in your language before translating. |

Lower
Intermediate |
Your syntax is good but you still
make errors. You still draft with difficulties. Your vocabulary,
although limited, allows you to understand 60 % of the conversations
of the common life expressed in a normal way. You continue to think in
your own language before translating. |
| Intermediate |
You read and write without any
trouble in spite of errors. The idioms of the language are not easy
matter for you. You are understood without too much difficulty. You
still feel difficulties drafting. You understand now thanks to a
vocabulary more enriched conversations on less commonplace subjects.
You tend to think still in your language. |
Upper
Intermediate |
To read and to write are now made
with a certain ease but the mastery is not completed. Your vocabulary
is rather vast but certain subjects escape you for lack of a precise
vocabulary. Your mother tongue begins to become blurred in your way of
thinking to give way to the learnt language. |
| Superior |
You read and usually write, but you
still make errors in the purely idiomatic expressions. Your
pronunciation is good. You resort to the dictionary for the more
technical or less usual words. You still think of 15 % in your mother
tongue. |
| Advanced |
You master the new language. To
read, to write and to speak are not any more a problem. You do not
think any more in your mother tongue. However certain tears can be
made on highly-specialized fields of the language, on not yet
assimilated technical or scientific vocabulary. |
| Excellent |
You are made almost perfectly
bilingual. Some small errors can arise but they are rare. Your
communication is completed. You miss however the speed of
pronunciation. A vaster vocabulary on certain precise subjects will
make you comfortable. The bilingualism is not far for you. |
